Health certificates are getting a lot of press lately. While they have always been required, they are now being looked at more closely. Given that there is a lot of confusion on the subject, we have broken down the requirements for health certificates state by state in the New England area. This information has been obtained by contacting each state's Department of Agriculture. For further information, the Department of Agriculture has been listed for each state as well. Connecticut
Permanently Moving: Health certificate within 30 days. Negative Coggins within 12 months.
Shows/Fairs/Trails: Valid health certificate within 30 days of first show and then it is valid for the remainder of the season. Negative coggins within 12 months. No import permit required.

New York
New York requires a health certificate within 30 days and a negative Coggins within 12 months for all horses entering the state.
They will accept health certificates between July 1st and Labor Day of this year as long as they were written 30 days prior to the first show. After Labor Day, a new health certificate will be needed every 30 days. For example, if a health certificate were written on June 5th for a show on July 1st, that certificate would be valid through Labor Day. A certificate written on June 5th for a show July 10th is
invalid.

Shows/Fairs: The health certificate must be dated within 30 days of your first show. As long as you attend your first show within 30 days of obtaining a health certificate, then it will be valid for 30 days. Destination should be listed as 2013 VT Show Season
or New England Shows/Trails. In addition to this, you or your veterinarian must obtain an exhibition permit number which must be added to the health certificate. Negative Coggins within 12 months is needed.
